Workshop
overview:
Sales and use tax and gross receipts tax returns are a financially significant responsibility for all municipal electric utilities. FMEA members must properly collect and remit taxes, and pay taxes on some transactions. A failure to collect and remit taxes could lead to substantial penalties and interest payments. Confusion over municipal exemptions could lead to a lost opportunity to take advantage of available exemptions.
This is an opportunity for all FMEA members to have their staff updated on applicable state tax laws and regulations.
Key Topics:
Proper collections of sales and use tax
Sales tax customer exemptions
Municipal sales tax exemptions
Update on new gross receipts tax regulations
Communications services tax update
Municipal Public Service Tax update
